The independent investigation identified critical flaws in the University’s handling of the situation. These included insufficient staff supervision during sensitive examinations, barriers that prevented victims from reporting Hadden's abuse, and a failure to respond to numerous complaints about his misconduct.

Dr. Robert Hadden, a former OB/GYN at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, practiced for more than 30 years until his arrest in 2012 for his sexual offenses. During examinations, Hadden often disguised his illicit acts by claiming they were routine. The women who sought care from Hadden placed their trust in him. He cultivated a friendly, personal demeanor, but exploited that trust in deeply disturbing and indefensible ways.
Despite the numerous patient complaints, Hadden continued to practice at Columbia University Irvine Medical Center and New York- Presbyterian Hospital, with some complaints of sexual abuse dating back as far as the ‘90s.
In 2023, Hadden was convicted in federal court and sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex crimes. More than 1,000 patients have come forward to allege abuse, and recent reports speculate the number could be much larger.
